SHORELINE RESTORATION

Healthy shorelines help prevent flooding, protect water quality, and provide habitat. However, many shorelines have been damaged over time by development and other activities. Restoration heals the natural function of shorelines. Shoreline restoration usually includes replacing hard materials, like seawalls, with diverse plants and other natural elements, and restoring natural water flow. In addition to improving water quality and aquatic and wildlife habitat, restored shorelines reduce erosion and flooding, store carbon, and can provide open spaces for people and wildlife to enjoy.
