REAL-TIME CONTROLS & SMART SENSORS
Real-time controls and smart sensors help utilities use data and technology to adjust the drainage or wastewater system during storms to prevent flooding and overflows. Real-time controls can be added to storage facilities, stormwater ponds, or cisterns to improve their ability to temporarily store water during heavy rainfall. Smart sensors track how water is moving through the drainage or wastewater system to help identify ways to adjust the system to make it work better. Real-time controls and smart sensors both help utilities make the most of their existing infrastructure and give utilities information that will help them adapt to changing conditions in the future. SPU is beginning to incorporate real-time controls into our system operations but does not currently use smart sensors.
