FLOODPLAIN RECONNECTION
Floodplain reconnection reestablishes a connection between a creek and the nearby land. Floodplains ease flooding and improve water quality by removing pollutants and storing sediment. By slowing the flow of water, they stabilize stream temperatures, reduce erosion, and provide wildlife habitat. Over time, buildings, roads, and other developments have disconnected floodplains from creeks. A reconnected floodplain can provide new or improved natural space for people and wildlife to enjoy.
